La Veruca

La Veruca

  • 2.0 oz. blanco tequila (Siete Leguas)
  • 0.5 oz. honey liqueur (Barenjager)
  • 0.5 oz. lemon juice
  • 0.25 oz. agave syrup
  • pinch of salt
  • dash of El Guapo Fuego bitters
  • blueberries

Muddle blueberries in lemon juice and agave. Add remaining ingredients and ice. Shake and strain. Garnish with blueberries.

I had fresh blueberries and wanted to take advantage. The list of what I added makes a pretty straightforward sour. It may come off.as sweet with both honey and agave, but the half an ounce of lemon really helped. Still, reduce the honey if so inclined.

La Veruca means absolutely nothing in Spanish. Of course, it’s a play on Willy Wonka’s Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregard, of the blueberry fame, with a Mexican twist. I considered Violet Veruca, but liked the ring better of the succinct arricle, even if it didn’t fit exactly. Considering the Oompa Loompa orange color, I could have thrown the whole book at this drink. Ah well, at least with this you can say, “I want it NOW.”
